Known for his creative concepts and his uniquely designed entertainment blogs and audio productions, South African creative entrepreneur Luther Lempe, better known as Sole Essential, has come a long way since the days when, still a teenager, he could be found curating small pop culture-events and hip hop street sessions in his hometown town of Bophelong and surrounding communities.

When he established himself as a music producer, DJ and promoter in the Sedibeng District Municipality, hereinafter referred to as ‘Vaal’, in 2008 he found his way to radio stations like VUT FM, and to places like the legendary Palm Court Night Club on Becquerel St. in Vanderbijlpark, Vaal, where he fell knee-deep into a vibrant nightlife scene. Sole Essential quickly grew to be a multi-disciplinary force melding music, art, fashion, technology and creativity with his original and refreshing perspective.
Between the years 2009 and 2012, Sole Essential composed for various local and international music labels such as; Lalela Music (the biggest Africa-owned music library in the world), NeoDisco Music (USA), Solid Ground Recordings (UK), and Soul Candi Records (SA), among others.
During the same period, he also produced and curated an array of radio mix shows and original podcast series’ for Ibiza House Music (Spain), African Crest Radio (SA), and Italian radio station, Radio 107, to name but a few. These projects didn’t only catapult his music career to great new heights, but also repositioned him as a multitalented creative inspiration – which, in turn, led him down a path of musical ingenuity which saw him develop an international following for his compositions and his unique style of mixing and blending records.
Determined to flex his creative muscles in 2013, Sole Essential launched an independent media venture, called “Get Social Brand”, which primarily focused on business blogging, concept development and brand communications. Subsequently, he served as a communications consultant to various Vaal-based businesses, including, but not limited to: Lefelong Café (a popular resto-bar), Ola Superstores (An award winning grocery store), and Diwetse Shisanyama (a restore bar), to name but a few.
In 2014, he co-founded a weekly newspaper publication, a quarterly leadership magazine, and then later launched two of his own pop culture-inspired multifaceted blogs, namely; Simple Media (a multimedia presentation of Hip Hop culture), and Pikoko (a music, fashion and lifestyle blog and brand engagement platform that’s geared towards fashion conscious millenials and music aficionados).
Fast forward to 2016, he has now worked on several integrated projects for various companies and he has also been involved in media and communications through his work in many ways.
More recently, Sole Essential founded an independent full service media and communications agency that encompasses music, entertainment, fashion and art called ‘Good Agency’, a multi-faceted media venture that serves as an umbrella for all of his business endeavors, including two of the aforementioned properties, Pikoko and Simple Media, along with the Sole Essential-branded online publication, ‘Off The Record’ – Africa’s first interactive music and lifestyle e-zine – and an Afrocentric dance music podcast series called ‘Recorded’, in which he is the current host & resident DJ.
