Hot Pick: House Assassins’ ‘Kakarumba’
Hot Pick is a multi-layered music series that aims to highlighting the hottest dance records, music videos, and podcasts fashioned by lesser known – and/or somewhat established – music producers, recording artists and emerging remixers currently based in the African continent.
This week’s top selection is a blazing hot little number, entitled “Kakarumba’ – an afro tech house production from a South African (Johannesburg-based) afro dance collective known as House Assassins.
With that in mind, and as per usual, we had a quick conversation with House Assassins about the inspiration and fascinating story behind the song. You can check out the short interview below and/or listen to a sneaky preview of the song further down below.
How would you describe this song to an unfamiliar ear?
‘Kakarumba’ is a nice combination of Afro house drums & tech house elements. It is a song that is intended to put you in the mood to hit the dance floor. In other words, it is a club banger.
What is the inspiration behind the record?
We were having a really bad day, so we crafted “Kakarumba” as a creative way to release our emotions. That is partly why the song feels aggressive – more like a beast when it enters.
