Six Fierce Vaal-based Female Deejays You Should Know About Right Now

As most of you might already know, August is the month that we celebrate great women and all the valuable contributions and highly important roles they play in our personal lives, business environments and otherwise. Naturally, as a gender neutral music and entertainment brand, we celebrate women all throughout the year, however, August is when we do it officially.
That being said, if you have ever been to the Vaal Region for a good night out with friends – or you somehow got exposed to our nightlife scene in any way – you would agree that there’s usually not that many women featured on our line-ups here.
To make matters worse, we’ve always had an array of the most beautiful social gatherings & music festivals in this entire province.

Obviously it’s not very pleasant to admit this and/or even write about it, but that’s the simple truth & most our females deejays know very well that they are extremely underrated out here.

Nevertheless, I have been watching a few of these women in business for a long while now and recently decided put together a list of six fierce female DJs that I personally think you should know and possibly consider booking for your next event in the aforementioned region and far beyond.
Having said that, in alphabetical order, here are six female disc jockeys you should know about right now:
DJ Barbie
The incredibly vivacious and amazing DJ Barbie made her mark when she first launched her booming career in the music and entertainment industry just a little over eight years ago.
If you have ever (and I mean ever) had the greatest pleasure of being in her presence in the past you would agree that her live deejay sets have definitely grown in giant stride and leaps since her first introduction to the mainstream circuit.
Not to mention, there’s a handful of deejays in the whole (Vaal) region that can claim to mix amapiano songs and afro tech records as well as she does. She recently became one of the few resident deejays at Lefelong Café – a very famous nightlife destination and resto-bar currently located in the Vaal Region – where she normally plays a good blend of deep vocal house, afro dance music and a smooth selection of amapiano classics.
DJ Chainz
If there is one emerging female disc jockey that has been going the extra mile to keep the thriving hip hop scene and culture alive in our region, it’s definitely Chainz.
Now, you may not know this about her, but she is also one of the co-founding partners of a fast-rising Vaal-based entertainment business venture & music presentation known simply as “Music & You”.

There is a lot we could write about this deejay’s powerful music selection and how she has always been willing to give her peers a platform, but in the interest of time and keeping things very short, I’m only going to highlight that bit and inform you that you can trust her on the decks and believe me when I tell you that she is one of the few female deejays in the Vaal Region who can trusted with the responsibility of pushing the culture forward.
DJ Thodee
Gender aside, Thodee is arguably one of the greatest song selectors and show stoppers that our region has to offer you. She has an intoxicating turn up vibe and her flawless mixing abilities make her one of the very few disc jockeys that could effortlessly define what it means to be a good female deejay in this country.

Not just that, there’s also a lot that we could write about her most recent video mixes and how she has always been able to keep a good party vibe going.

In the interest of keeping this short (once again), if you do like deep house music with a bit of afro tech and soulful house music then you should consider getting into her music space because Thodee will just keep on bowing you away every time – same way she did when I first heard her play live in a Facebook video just a very short while ago.
Dutchess
Christien Verboon, better known as Dutchess, is a Vaal-based businesswoman, fashion enthusiast and Disc Jockey. She has not only emerged as one of the most promising/versatile tastemakers in the local dance music scene, but also pushes the envelope in this male dominated music and entertainment industry as an up and coming song writer and aspiring record producer.

Dutchess has performed at most of the major night clubs in South Africa, but one of her greatest highlights is when she was crowned the best new female deejay in Gauteng by the largest vodka brand in the world, Smirnoff, way back in two 2017. Her versatile music selections will keep (virtually) every house music head satisfied – regardless of their age, gender, race and/or ethnicity.
Faith Sam Sam
This multi-talented disc jockey is easily considered as one of the most underrated neo-soul and down tempo deejays in the Vaal Region right now. Not only that, she is also very humble about her fast-rising music career.

That being said, I personally adore everything about Faith Sam Sam and how different she is, however, if there is one thing I do appreciate more than everything about her music journey, it has to be the way she blends her music whenever she plays. In other words, I respect her a lot.

So much so, that if we had to use just one famous quote to perfectly express her type of mixing (technique) and music style it would be this: “if you’re always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be”.
I’d say this quote is very perfect (by the late Maya Angelou) because it genuinely describes the way she plays and how often she tries to move away from all the noise we typically get from so many female deejays in this highly competitive industry.
Miss Acucar
If you see this house music disc jockey, entertainment entrepreneur, and recently qualified artisan’s stage name listed on any poster for an event that will be hosted in an area near where you are currently located, you better run and go check it out.

Not only is Miss Acucar very fierce behind the decks, she also definitely delivers every time because she certainly knows how to blend her versatile song selection for every occasion based on what she reads from the crowd.
Not every deejay can say this, but if there’s one thing you should know about her mixing abilities, it’s almost always flawless. In other words, she really is as good at this dj’ng profession as she claims to be.
